Dear Haverim, In 2022, the RA-USCJ Joint Innovation Fund invested in a research project with OneTable to learn about the experiences and opinions of young adults with connections to the Conservative Movement. Our research focused on young adults ages 21-39 and included both a quantitative study (survey) and focus groups. We are pleased to share this overview document, which surfaces key takeaways and discoveries from the research report issued in December 2022. This document also offers questions created by USCJ to spark conversation and brainstorming about how each of our organizations – and our Movement overall – can better engage young adults. While keeping in mind that the survey population has already made a choice to engage in Jewish experiences through OneTable, the report indicates amazing success in our movement's efforts in raising this cohort of young adults, while pushing our movement to new efforts to engage them in their next life stage. Here are some key findings, indicating that young adults; Feel very positive, and even "nostalgic," for their childhood and teen synagogue experiences and interactions with clergy. Want to raise Jewish children (98%!). Would like more support in life transitions and raising Jewish children, but not necessarily in a "traditional synagogue" setting. Want to engage "on their terms," affirming their life choices about their identities, partners, perspectives on Israel, and social justice commitments.
It's also important to note that key populations, such as LGBTQ+ individuals and Jews of Color are underrepresented in the survey responses.
We hope these research highlights and discussion prompts support planning and visioning for your community’s young adult outreach and engagement efforts — now and in the near future. VIEW OVERVIEW DOCUMENT HERE. L’Shalom,
