Very Small Congregations Gathering for leaders of synagogues with under 80 member units
Topic: Long-Term Planning
This will be an interactive discussion and will rely on your participation. Please come prepared to share what takes place at your synagogue along with the desire to learn from others.
The conversation might include:
- What comes to mind when you think of long-term planning?
- Have you tried long-term planning in the past? What happened?
- How far ahead does your synagogue typically plan?
- How realistic does developing a 3-year or a 5-year plan feel for your community?
- What needs to be in place for your synagogue to be ready for long-term planning?
- What are barriers and enabling factors in your congregation for long-term planning?
- Who should own long-term planning in a small synagogue?
- What kind of expertise is needed for long-term planning?
- What might be a manageable first step to long term-planning?
- What’s been learned about long-term planning by those who have done it?
What else do you want to ask each other?
Staff, clergy and lay leadership are welcome.
The session is scheduled for 60 minutes. In order to optimize free-flowing conversation, notes will not be taken and it will not be recorded.
