Very Small Congregations Gathering for leaders of synagogues with under 80 member units
Topic: Generating Income Beyond Dues-Fundraising, Grants, Endowments, etc.
(if your synagogue has more than 80 member units, we invite you to instead participate in the small congregations leadership gathering the previous day, designed for leaders of synagogues like yours.)
This will be an interactive discussion and will rely on your participation. Please come prepared to share what takes place at your synagogue along with the desire to learn from others. Discussion questions might include:
- What percentage of your synagogue’s income comes from dues? From Fundraising? From grants? From endowments/legacy gifts? From investments? From programming?
- Has your congregation successfully received a grant? From who? How was it located? What did you learn from the experience?
- What special events successfully net meaningful income and are designed to do more than break-even?
- What is your most successful fundraiser and why does it work?
- Who might be untapped donor groups and how do you reach them?
- What fears or misconceptions exist around endowment-building or legacy giving?
- What does a successful model for lay-professional partnership around income generation look like?
- In what kind of investments does or could your synagogue engage?
- What skills or talents exist within your membership that could generate income?
- How can community members open doors to donors and foundations?
What else do you want to learn from one another?
Staff, clergy and lay leadership are welcome.
The session is scheduled for 60 minutes. In order to optimize free-flowing conversation, notes will not be taken and it will not be recorded.
